- When was the first electric car released?
- The original electric car was actually first invested somewhere around 1832 by Scottish businessman Robert Anderson. He originally invented an electric carriage. The technology has come a long way since then, but oil unfortunately took over as the dominant power source.
- Are electric cars widely used?
- Not presently, although the technology has been continually gaining momentum and notoriety. While some consumers take advantage of electric technology, the cost still proves to be an obstacle.
- Does the additional usage of electricity increase or decrease carbon dioxide emissions?
- While electric cars are technically zero emission, they do increase demand for electrical generation. Even taking this into account, however, emissions still tend to be significantly lower than conventional cars.
- How much of an obstacle is the short range on electric vehicles?
- Presently, the limited driving range of the average electrically powered vehicle relegates them to commuter cars in most cases. Some models to get around this with the ability to switch to a conventional gas engine when the batteries on board have been drained.
